Zuzu the poodle has a bad habit of ripping the stuffing out of pillows.  It is one of her favorite pastimes.  In fact, just a few weeks ago, she decided to rip into one of my favorite Anthropologie pillows.  While I was rather angry with her for her destructive behavior, I decided to look on the bright side–perhaps Zuzu was encouraging me to redecorate.  Maybe she just doesn’t like the Anthropologie aesthetic.  So armed with a thrift store pillow case, a stencil set, a black fabric marker, and my sewing machine, I set out to make a new pillow cover, one that maybe Zuzu would appreciate. The result is a chic pillow, that will likely be destroyed by Zuzu within a few weeks, but for now, looks lovely on my sofa.  I was inspired by Wit & Whistle, which published a great tutorial that walked me through the process of stenciling the pillow.  I encourage you to check out that tutorial here.

I chose to stencil the lyrics of one of my favorite songs, “Used to Be” by Beach House, on the pillow case.   In case you hadn’t guessed, I’m kind of an obsessive Beach House fan.  Teen Dream is one of my favorite albums of all time.
