Our dining room is probably the first room in our house that I’m almost 100% satisfied with. It took some work, but it’s now a beautiful space that pushed me to expand outside my typical MCM or Japandi style. When entering the house, you have to go through the dining room to basically get to any other room in the house, so getting it right was vital to setting the tone for the whole house.
The design all started with a Pottery Barn Chandelier (Scarlett Crystal Oval Chandelier) that has major antique french country vibes. I loved the look of the chandelier, but it didn’t really go with our schoolhouse style chairs. I spent months trying to figure out what type of chairs to buy and was prepared to pay a lot of money, but I happened upon the perfect chairs at a local furniture shop (Ballard Consignment) for a bargain price. They are the Svelti Pure White Dining Chairs from Article. Ballard Consignment has some type of deal with Article where they get customer returns and can sell them as second hand, which is such a cool program. The chairs made a big difference, but I think my favorite addition to the room is some oversized artwork from Juniper Print Shop. It’s Trails by Candace Wiant. I got the 45×55 size and I used an IKEA Bjorksta frame, which I spray painted white. It’s a super inexpensive way to get oversized art that looks like a million bucks.
So happy with this room, but I have to admit that it had some amazing bones to start with. Like the amazing built ins that flank the entrance to the living room.
And the giant french doors that lead out to a side patio. I can’t wait to open those doors this spring/summer when we are entertaining.
It feels so good to have a room come together and to really flex outside of my design comfort zone. Now I smile every time I sit on my couch in the living room and peer out into the dining room. I love this house so much, but it’s definitely been a bit stressful to try and inject the Ekloff touch, so I’m trying to soak up all the little wins.
