Oh my gosh, how did Halloween creep up on us so quickly? I love family costumes, and usually try to plan a very cute theme way ahead of time. But this year, we were down the wire and I didn’t have time to come up with a creative costume, so I opened up Amazon search and let Florence go wild. She had very strong opinions about what we should dress up as and I decided to just roll with it. So this might not be the most Pinterest worthy costume, but it is what it is… and what it is, is a family of unicorns.

Florence picked everyone’s costumes except for mine. I vetoed her suggestions and went for a “unicorn-lite” look. On the flip side, Joey really leaned into the unicorn skeleton costume that Florence found in the depths of Amazon.

I especially love that she is wearing her unicorn rainboots as well. Because we do live in Seattle, so you gotta be practical.

In other Halloween news, we did a few very lightweight crafts that I thought would be fun to share. First up, cardboard skeletons.

I had a really big box in my recycling container, which was the perfect size for these cuties. I did the one on the right, and Florence decorated the one on the left. If this isn’t an embodiment of our differing styles, I don’t know what is. Florence went all out on the color and I stuck with neutrals. We are on brand, always! But I will say, I love Florence’s dia de los muertos vibes. Joey helped her with the face and the ribcage.

And keeping with the recycling theme, we order our groceries online, so I have a ton of paper bags. I thought a good way to use them up was to make a bunch of bats.

I’ve been seeing bats pop up all over Pinterest, so I thought it would be cute to try. They definitely aren’t perfect, but I kind of dig the homemade vibe.

Also as a bonus, Florence was in charge of painting them black, which was a nice way to distract her for a few hours.

And that, my friends, is about the extent of our Halloween decor. I am so tired these days. I forgot how exhausting a baby is, I don’t have the energy to do anything other than the basics. So I actually am pretty proud of the fact that we did this. Hope you have a great Halloween!
