I’ve noticed that when you grow up somewhere, you tend to take it for granted.  I spent the first 18 years of my life in New Mexico, living in Bernallio County, on the edge of Albuquerque.  My parent’s house is surrounded by high desert, and not much else.  It used to seem so desolate and boring, but now that I live in a busy city, I miss the quiet beauty.  This past weekend, I was back in Albuquerque for a friend’s bridal shower, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to document the stunning, wild desert that I have come to miss.

The picturesque mountains in the distance are the Sandias. At sunset, they turn pink, hence the name, which means watermelon in Spanish.

I love living in Seattle, but I really do miss the arid New Mexico landscape.
