Decorating for autumn has always been a struggle for me. I hate the tacky trinkets that show up in the stores around this time –cornucopias, pumpkins, scarecrows, ick! Not my scene.  But I still want to embrace the season, so I decided to create an autumn centerpiece that fits my tastes.  My main inspiration was a beautiful seasonal wreath made from twigs that I stumbled upon at BloomNation, a flower delivery service that supports local florists through an online marketplace.  With the wreath in mind, I crafted a understated, yet still festive centerpiece that I’m proud to show off.

The focal point of the centerpiece is a pair of branches that I painted white.  Then I incorporated a few dried flowers and leaves and tied it all together with a piece of burlap.

It’s very simple, which is exactly what I wanted.

I think the key to decorating for autumn is to keep it understated. Nothing about my centerpiece is overpoweringly fall-like, yet it still manages to capture the spirit of the season. What’s your secret for decorating for autumn?
