Last year, Florence got a princess tent for Christmas, and it’s probably her favorite gift that she has ever received. It was bright pink, had polka dots, and was very big. What’s not to love? If you are a 5 year old girl, it’s a dream, but as far as I was concerned, it was a bit of an eyesore. I tried to convince her to replace it with a more color neutral playhouse, but she wasn’t having it. Go pink or go home is her motto. Here is the exact tent so you can get a feel for what I was dealing with…
Since she wasn’t going to budge on having a pink tent, I decided that the least I could do was make it a slightly more muted pink. I had a lot of success with the playhouse makeover from our old house, so I was feeling pretty confident that I could pull off a similar feat. I had a ton of paint samples left over from her room makeover, so I opted to try out one of those (Behr Flamingo Feathers). I mixed it with some paint medium and got to work. It took a few coats to fully cover the polka dots, but it turned out fantastic.
Other than paint, the only modification was adding some cute yarn tassels to jazz it up a bit. Here’s a side by side so you can really see the difference.
I was a little worried about how Florence would react when she saw it, but she was actually a total champ about it. She said she loves it. Happy kid, happy mom, winner winner chicken dinner!
