Our basement renovation (also known as remediation after a little flooding incident) is still going on – I thought for sure it would be done by now, but alas, it’s not. Because I’ve been dreaming up how to re-decorate the space once it’s ready, I have a lot of pent up creative energy, so I’ve started taking on other projects around the house. One of the bigger ones is a total redesign of our attic. It started as a storage space and office and now it’s a office, craft room, and music room. It seriously looks so great, but I have a few more things to do there, so that’s not what I’m going to share today. Instead, I’m just going to share some very small improvements that I’ve been making on the main floor.

First up, our kitchen.  One day I will do a full kitchen tour, but for now, I’m going to show you these awesome shelves I made. I’m so, so, so in love with the open shelving trend. Unfortunately, my cabinets are full of brightly colored sippy cups that are not display worthy. So instead of taking the plunge and making all my upper cabinets sans doors, I just added a section of open shelving in this weird dead space to the right of our sink.

Also, I get a lot of questions about our concrete counters. That was one of the first things we did when we moved into the house.  We hated the countertops, so we jumped on the diy concrete bandwagon and covered them ourselves. It’s held up great and although it’s not my dream solution, it will work until we do a full kitchen renovation.

One other thing that is noteworthy about this space is the artwork under the shelves. It was a thrift store Mona Lisa print that we decided to partially cover with silver spray paint. Is it weird? Yes. Is it totally on brand for Joey and Kathryn? Also, yes. Let’s face it, we are weird.

Okay, next up is our living room.  Really the only thing I did here is remove the TV from above our fireplace. I know it’s a little controversial because we now don’t have a TV, but honestly I don’t watch TV. I watch shows on my iPad in bed. The TV was only used when my parents were visiting and my dad wanted to watch sports.  Now if he wants to catch a game, he can walk to the pub up the street. Not a deal breaker. Also, we are planning on installing a projector in this room one day, but that’s been put on hold due to all the other household priorities #homeownership.

The framed poster above the fireplace is one of my favorites. It’s a Father John Misty print that we got ages ago. It was previously in the basement, but now it’s front and center – one of the first things you see when you walk into our house.

So that’s all I have to share today, but I promise that a ton of different projects are coming together and I’ll have some exciting posts soon. Have a great weekend!
