I promised that more pictures of our house would be coming soon, and I am finally ready to deliver on that promise. Today I will be sharing our kitchen. The kitchen was one of the areas in the house that didn’t need a ton of improvement, especially since Joey and I are not gourmet chefs.  The only “chef” in our house is Chef Boyardee.  With that said, I do think a modern, bright kitchen is important, and since we now have a mortgage to pay, we are trying to save money by eating in more often.  If I am forced to cook, I at least want to be in a nice looking room.

Below is a photo of the kitchen when we moved in.  It wasn’t half bad.  I liked most everything except the bar stools and paint color, and those were easy fixes.

We painted the walls, switched out the stools,  hung up some artwork, and called it a day.

For the paint color, we choose the same shade as our living room, Behr Twilight Gray (750E-2).   The backsplash was painted Behr Shale Gray   (540F-4).  It turned out a lot bluer than we expected, but we like it.

I don’t mind the three lights above the island, but Joey hates them.  We plan on switching them out in the near future; however since neither one of us is a qualified electrician, that is one thing that we will not be undertaking as a diy project.  I’m willing to take a lot of risks  for the sake of saving money, but electrocution is one thing I am not comfortable with.

The big blue asterisk painting is one of my favorite elements in the kitchen.  It is so playful.  Plus it was one of our earlier diy projects, so it has sentimental value.

We didn’t have to buy much, so the list of sources is fairly short: Stools Ikea; Trash Can Crate & Barrel; Kitchen Rug Marshalls; Pantry Ikea wardrobe hack; Painting by Joey Ekloff.
